19 July 2007, Shenzhen, China: Supported by Mission Hills, The R&A and UBS, the Faldo Series Asia China championship will tee off on the Faldo Course at Mission Hills Golf Club on 25 and 26 July with over 100 participants taking part. The overall champion and five other division winners will be back on the Faldo Course at Mission Hills to compete in the grand final on 12-14 December.
In a bid to develop tomorrow’s champions, China’s leading young golfers, boys and girls aged 21 and under, will experience 36 holes under strict tournament conditions on the highly-acclaimed Faldo course, while off the course they will receive expert advice from Cindy Reid, the number 1 female golf instructor who has jointly created her first golf academy in China with Mission Hills – the ‘Mission Hills Golf Academy by Cindy Reid’. Local children will also be invited to receive free coaching and watch the players in action as part of Nick Faldo’s drive to simultaneously increase access to the sport at a grass-roots level.
Many age division winners of last year’s inaugural China championship are returning to take part, including Yang Zhong (Mixed Under 21), Wang Xin (Girls Under 16), and Wang Guan Jie (Boys Under 16). In addition, making a first appearance is the 19-year-old overall champion of the 2006 China Amateur Open 2006, Xiao Se; the amateur from Qingdao who played on the Omega China Tour, Xie Zhi; winner of the China Junior Open 2006 (Boys 15-17); plus the Ye brothers Ye Jian Feng and Ye Jian Wei.
Commented Yang Zhong: “I really look forward to playing in the China championship again. This gives me a perfect opportunity to compete with not only leading Chinese amateurs but also others from overseas. I am confident in myself and hope to qualify for the Faldo Series Asia grand final so I can learn from Nick Faldo.” |
